Day 6

Posted on

Today we traveled to New Hampshire with a quick side trip into Vermont. We took a side trip to drive over a floating bridge in Brookfield.  Originally it used gallon drums to float the bridge. It has since been reconstructed with pontoons which makes it significantly safe,  but not fun to drive.

We then headed to New Hampshire where we were supposed to stop at flume gorge. Sean asked if we could go to the hotel instead of stopping, and as it was a laundry day we all decided to skip the gorge.

Day 4 – June 18 today we traveled to Cambridge to see MIT before we headed to Boston where I was thrilled to meet up with a great friend and her family. They toured the aquarium while I took the boys on a duck boat tour. They loved the tour. I was a bit sad because I was on the wrong side and didn’t get as many pictures as I would have liked. My favorite part is going out on the water.

After walking around and viewing all the items for sale in the markets,  we headed off to Cheers. Both boys enjoyed their burgers while I had a turkey sandwich with a pretzel roll. We all had a fantastic time watching Hayden eating a lemon. He loved making us laugh with his sour faces he was making.

After saying our goodbyes,  the boys and I headed to The Liberty hotel. It was cool because part of it used to be the jail,  but the over priced valet and room service made us wish we stayed in our Hampton Inn standby.  The majority of the trip (USA portion)  we have stayed in Hampton Inns or other Hilton family hotels. We definitely do not recommend this hotel.

Tomorrow we are off to NH.

Take care y’all

June 17 –  Today we headed to Rhode Island. We had 2 goals today. First goal was to visit the Castle Hill Lighthouse in Newport.  Second was to take Sean to see Finding Dory.

We had a beautiful drive to Newport.  Sunshine and 80 degrees with a breeze. Unfortunately,  we didn’t make it to the lighthouse.  There was some sort of sailing event and the road to the lighthouse was packed. Instead,  we drove around to visit Breton Point State Park and then we drove around looking at the mansions. I had a good laugh when Brian said he would like it if we retired there. I told him that unless he was going to rake in some money it wouldn’t happen any time soon.

After leaving Newport we headed into Providence to stop at Providence Place Mall to see Finding Dory. Massive mall and we were a bit lost trying to figure out where to go to find the theater. Sean thoroughly enjoyed the movie and giggled often.

Tomorrow we head to Boston where we will meet up with a friend who move here from Virginia.

Day 3

June 16 –  Today we headed to Connecticut.  Before we left NJ we stopped at IHOP (seans favorite) for breakfast and then made a quick stop at target for roadtrip snacks and drinks for the boys.

While traveling towards the hotel we made a quick stop in Orange,  CT. We stopped by the Pez Visitor Center.

image

This is the kind of museum/visitor centers that my boys prefer. It’s interactive so you can learn about Pez history and have fun at the same time. Their favorite display was where you guess the name of the Pez dispenser. At first we did chose easy level. Then we got cocky and shifted to expert. Um bad choice although we did get half correct (by accident) . My favorite part was seeing through into the factory area where we saw people packing the Pez and also putting the dispensers together.

If it’s on the route you are traveling it is definitely worth seeing. I wouldn’t drive an hour out of the way to visit.

After a quick break at our hotel, we drove to Mystic, CT to visit Mystic Pizza. It was a bit out of the way but Sean enjoyed their pizza (his favorite food) and Brian said their burgers were OK. I stuck with a salad as I know there will be days where I will not be making very healthy choices.

Tomorrow we are off to RI.

Day 2 – Asbury Park, NJ

June 15 –  we spent the day relaxing. Sean and I walked to a cute little bistro for our morning meal. Sean loved their giant croissants (he ate 2) while I had an unusual waffle.

Afterwards we walked around the boardwalk and we bought Brian a swimsuit as he forgot to pack one.  The boys spent some time playing games while I ran to the stored buying what we forgot to pack (mouthwash, q-tips &  nail clippers) .

Later Sean and I walked down to the boardwalk for dinner at the arcade. Unfortunately, what we thought was pizza was a tomato pie and was too different from his usual pizza for Sean to eat. I caved and picked up mcdonald’s.  Hopefully the food will be better as we travel.

On the Road Again

Posted on

image

We have started our last long road trip. Four weeks of craziness. Originally planned as 8 weeks until I caved to peer pressure and cut it in half. Surprisingly,  the most pressure was from Pat who wanted the kids to have more relaxing at home time before school starts in late August.

Our first stop, for two nights,  is the Berkeley Hotel in Asbury Park,  NJ. One of our rare 2 night stops for this trip. We will spend the day on the boardwalk meandering past the Wonder Bar (nightclub and grill where Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi played) and do a bit of shopping as Brian forgot to pack a swimsuit.

I hope to be able to post a few pictures later today of the sites we have seen and some of the kid’s exploring (if they cooperate) .

Take care y’all
