The kids are asking daily how many more days until we get to start our long haul to Alaska. As of today its 8 days + many hours. I think the kids are more excited about playing hooky for the last day of school so we can leave a bit early. We have made several changes to the campgrounds where we plan on staying while traveling. We managed to squeeze in staying in Indiana and Iowa so we can knock off two more states off our to be visited list. Unfortunately, we might have to change our plans again.
In April we did a test run in the RV to Loretta Lynn Campground in Hurricane Mills, TN. I have to say I loved the campground when we were in our travel trailer, but I don’t love it now that we have a 40 foot RV. We tried 5 different sites before we found one that was level enough to use. On our way home we went to park it at Garber Self Storage in Mt. Joy, PA. Well, instead of our usual way of backing up, we tried something different. Big mistake. We ended up clipping the driver side awning over our back slide.
The first place we went to thought we only needed a new end cap. Second place we went to (for warranty work for another issue) claims we need a new awning. We have decided that we need a 14 foot door to get our RV in and out of storage so when our new RV garage is installed we shouldn’t have the same issues since we will have an additional 2 feet to get in and out. In the meantime we are waiting to hear back from the awning company on what needs to be done. I have an appointment to install Mobileye on Monday so I have to pick up the RV Saturday and return it Tuesday and hope its fixed in time for the trip. I also need to find a place on the road that will do my 6 month, 6,000 mile service. I doubt I will be able to get it done before our trip. I will have to contact freightliner (who made our RV’s chassis) and see where I can take it.
I am trying to be positive and remain hopeful that we will start our trip as planned.
